SEEKING THE SACRED
Carmelite Hermitage

There are some who can glimpse the HEAVEN in their hearts and let their SOULS fly. There are some who fight the EVIL they see in their hearts and become warriors for goodness.

There are some whose SOUL is so beautiful, the dirt of this world just slides right off and doesn't stick.

There are some whose SOUL is just as beautiful, but they do not know it is beautiful, so the dirt sticks for a short time until it is washed away by tears of repentence.

There are some who GROW slowly like a periennel and put down strong roots that sustain them in winter.

There are some who GROW fast like annuals who bloom profusely for a season and then die, but whose seeds multiply and regenerate new annuals year after year.

THE SOUL AN ALTAR

He who wants to ascend the mount of perfection to build an altar upon which to offer the sacrifice of pure love, praise and adoration, must first fulfil the commandments of Jacob. He must cast away the strange gods of earthly affections and attachments. He must purify his desires, and he must change his garments. The last God will do for him if he observes the first two commands. God will change old to new by infusing into the soul a new knowledge and a new love, so that all that is human in the soul may become divine.

St. John of the Cross

The broken, contrite HEART knows that all in life is GRACE. Nothing eternally beautiful about us is of the flesh, but of the Spirit. He WHO gave us life, gave us the graces to live that life. To whom much is given, much is expected. The more LIGHT and LOVE placed within a soul, the more that soul is expected to understand that without GOD there is no LIGHT or LOVE. He is the LIGHT and LOVE of our life. Humility is loving God's LIGHT and LOVE within us and respecting our lives as a SACRED gift from GOD. Loving others is respecting that gift of LIGHT and LOVE within them as being a SACRED gift from GOD. The HOLY soul seeks the SACRED and respects the SACRED. When SACREDNESS is removed from our lives, nothing is HOLY.
